My burnout officially happened in 2016! But my issues began long before that! In fact, the symptoms – though problematic – are never the real problem! Symptoms are the RESULT of the problem!
The reason that I’m so passionate about helping women become the C.E.O. of their Health is because I’ve been through my own not-so-pretty, messy path to healing. For years, I suffered from all types of symptoms that conventional medical doctors dismissed as “normal”.
These “oh-so-normal” things included:
❌ A dodgy tummy which caused me to avoid dairy since age 16.
❌ Frequent bouts of food poisoning, and most foods just never seemed to agree with me.
❌ Truly debilitating stomach cramps, bloating, alternating constipation and diarrhea.
❌ Alcohol would make me either violently ill or fall straight to sleep – my body literally could not stomach it.
❌ Inability to fight off a simple cold flu, leading to sinus infections, tonsillitis or chest infections.
❌ Traveling or being out of my element seemed to make these symptoms worse.
❌ And let’s not forget the horrific monthly cycles that I’d been enduring since I was 14 well into my 30s.

By the time 2011 rolled around, I:
- Had just come out of my first marriage
- Was living in London in a high-pressured Investment Banking job
- Had been to my GP a few times within a few months because of some truly debilitating stomach cramps, bloating, alternating constipation and diarrhea.
- Was referred on to a Harley Street Gastro-enterologist. She sent me for a battery of tests, including a stool test and a scan of my stomach.
Everything came back normal. “There’s nothing structurally wrong with you,” were her exact words.
Without ever looking me in the eye, she concluded I probably had a high-stress job and I should work on reducing stress in my personal life, and maybe removing sugar and fat from my diet.
I walked away feeling completely underwhelmed and unsupported by her nonchalance. She didn’t even have an email address and the only way I could reach her was via fax. And she was charging £450 for 20 minutes!!!!
I didn’t buy her “it’s just stress” diagnosis. After all, I was a trained hypnotherapist who practised meditation daily – which was all that was really helping me survive 🧘. Apart from meditation and hypnosis, I’d been trying alternative treatments for about a decade:
❌ Chinese herbs
❌. Diatomaceous Earth
❌ Quantum energy healing
How many different alternate forms of medicine have you tried?
Spoiler alert: none of them worked for me – at least not for long! Not only was my health impacted, but my career, my finances, relationships and overall happiness. I remember telling my friends and partner just how exhausted and hopeless I felt. Like I was doomed to being sickly forever and have it affect every area of my life.
It’s pretty long & pretty crazy.
The point is that after 6 years of research, I discovered something that actually made sense: Functional Medicine and the tremendous value that comes from running the right labs. I finally had something I could tangibly see – biochemically – that was at the cause of my discomfort and pain. I was ready to try anything and I didn’t care how much it cost!
I learned that all the things I’d been trying were simply band-aids. They were never getting to the underlying cause – even the herbs and special diets. But my practitioner kept telling me that I had to trust the process, that the labs would provide the starting point for exactly what I needed to modify in my life.
