Are you dreading returning to the office and not being able to unbutton your pants to free your bloating belly out of shot from the video calls?
One of the many benefits of “shoulders-up” zoom meetings is coming to an end. I understand. Because I once felt like working from home was the solution to dealing with the painful cramps, coupled with increasing anxiety, and persistent IBS with reflux and bloating.
But hiding out is never a solution.
If you’re a go-getter, it’s the ultimate frustration when you’re being held back by your body. It requires so much effort just to get through your day, far less having the bandwidth to think about getting your nutrition, exercise, and sleep right.
Discover why addressing the root of your PCOS and anxiety frees you to confidently walk from behind the screen.
PCOS And Anxiety: That’s Not The Whole Story
While it’s true that PCOS and anxiety tend to go hand in hand, that’s not the whole story. The imbalance in hormones, often caused by stress and high levels of the hormones DHEA and Testosterone, is also affecting other parts of your body.
You may already know that the entire body is connected, so managing PCOS includes nourishing your liver and gut, too. If you’re not, you could be worsening your PCOS and anxiety.
As a woman living with PCOS, you’re intimately familiar with the symptoms and challenges. You may even be experiencing feelings of burnout and high stress. As you move forward throughout life and your career, these situations can feel like you’re in a downward spiral.
To make matters worse, your doctor assures you that it’s in your head because your blood work keeps coming back normal.
But this isn’t normal. Common, yes. But normal? No.
And no one knows YOU better than you. So it’s time to take a functional approach to get to the root cause of your PCOS and anxiety.
Understand What PCOS Is Doing To You
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine (hormone) disorder that affects as many as 1 in 10 women. It’s also a leading cause of female infertility. In addition, the condition represents your hormonal imbalance and metabolic issues and appears in women who are insulin resistant.
PCOS is a painful, inconvenient disorder that has the capacity to derail your personal and professional life if all you decide to do is manage symptoms.
Without a functional approach, where you personalize your diet, rest, exercise, stress management, and supplements (like our DRESS for Success protocol), you can’t expect to move forward, have energy, or even have a family.
But the good news is that there is hope. And I know this because I am proof. I once went through my days living with symptoms that I thought were just a part of life. But now, I have taken control and am the CEO of my health.
Are you ready to take control of your life?
I created Become The CEO Of Your Health for powerful women just like you. Because while you deserve to thrive in all that you do, your health doesn’t deserve a backseat to your priorities. Contact Well Works today to start healing from the root cause of your PCOS and anxiety.
Common Symptoms Of PCOS
You may notice some of the following symptoms of your PCOS creeping into your life:
- Irregular Or Completely Missed Periods. You probably noticed these symptoms more apparent during your teen years or in your late 20s. The missed, off-schedule, or non-existent periods weren’t just a part of growing up. Your doctor probably assured you that everyone is different and not to worry.
- PCOS Bloating. You experience abdominal pain or uncomfortable gas from certain foods and drinks containing carbohydrates called raffinose. You’re probably also experiencing these symptoms when you eat or drink dairy products.
- Problems With Skin And Hair. This is typically a result of excess androgen and appears in overly oily skin and acne. You may also notice hair thinning or excessive growth on the chin, upper lip, or elsewhere on the face. It’s embarrassing and overwhelming.
- Polycystic Ovaries. Small cysts found on or near the ovaries can impact their function and create infertility. The host of medications your doctor has prescribed aren’t helping. There must be another way.
Tired of being tired?
If all the coffee in the world isn’t giving you the perk you need to enjoy your life, then it’s time to find out why.
The Relationship Between PCOS And Anxiety
It’s important to note that the stress you’re feeling could be showing up in your life as anxiety and depression, which may be a by-product of your busy life. With the demands of your role, feeling anxious can leave you feeling completely overwhelmed.
You may have first learned about PCOS when your hair started thinning or that one missed period turned into several. It triggered your anxiety to hit a new level. And what many women don’t know is that trauma, stress, and anxiety can be the trigger for PCOS.
Do these symptoms sound all too familiar?
Stress Makes Your PCOS And Anxiety Symptoms Worse
Working in a fast-paced, competitive environment means that each day can feel like you’re on a never-ending conveyor belt, treadmill, or hamster wheel – with little respite. The thing is, everyone experiences stress differently. You may bite your nails, lock yourself in your bathroom at lunchtime crying, or spend inordinate amounts of time working out, to your detriment. While others compartmentalize and push their feelings deep down.
Yes, everyone experiences stress. But women who have PCOS may notice a direct correlation between their stress and PCOS symptoms. This is especially true for those who are having difficulty getting pregnant.
PCOS And Anxiety Accompanies Depression
Again, depression looks different for everyone, but it’s important to remember it is a SYMPTOM of a deeper problem. It can show up as a loss of interest in once-loved activities, avoiding social events, or constantly doubting your abilities, and never feeling good enough at the job that used to make you feel alive. Or maybe you feel productive throughout the day only to wind up feeling lonely, hopeless, and sad later on, eating all the cakes, pizza, and chips.
Having both PCOS and depression is often associated with those who have insulin resistance (i.e. poor blood sugar regulation). You may notice that you become “hangry” easily. This is one of the biggest tell-tale signs that it’s time to get some investigative work done.
The Functional Health Approach To Healing From Cyclical PCOS And Anxiety
Despite what the conventional approach may espouse, a lifestyle change and personalized nutrition can not only alleviate symptoms but can actually restore function and complete health.
When one part of the body is not working properly, there is a knock-on effect on the other systems. This is because the entire body is connected. That’s why you need to work with someone who understands the importance of identifying HIDDEN stressors – the Hormones, Immune System, Digestion, Detoxification, Energy Production, and Nervous System.
For instance, did you know your thyroid, gut, and liver can all influence each other? If your body isn’t detoxing right, that means the liver is not working, and this can be because the process of digestion is impaired. And since hormones form in the gut, it directly affects your thyroid.
To get to the root cause of your PCOS and anxiety symptoms, you need the functional approach. The labs run and analyzed by Well Works will help us both understand what is happening in your body.
With an understanding of what is getting in the way of your health, we can take the proper steps through the DRESS for Success protocol. This encompasses your diet, rest, exercise, stress management, and supplements. Because your health does not have a one-size-fits-all solution. You need a plan that will work for YOUR body’s unique needs.
